Johnny Drum Private Stock is a small batch sour mash bourbon from Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, bottled at 50.5% (101 proof) in a 75cl bottle.
The mashbill is high in rye: 52% corn, 38% rye and 10% malted barley. The bourbon goes into charred oak barrels at 125 proof and is reduced to 101 proof for bottling.
The nose offers caramel, honey, cranberry, plum, black cherry, vanilla and sugar cookie. The palate begins sweet with caramel and navel orange, then moves to baking spice, milk chocolate, ripe plum and dry oak. The finish is medium, spicy and very drying, with cinnamon, charcoal and leather.
