Jos. A. Magnus & Co. is a straight bourbon bottled at 50% (100 proof). It begins as a corn-based bourbon aged in new charred white oak and is matured for several years before finishing.
It is then finished in three types of cask: Oloroso sherry, Pedro Ximenez sherry and Cognac.
The nose is orange peel over dark dried fruit such as plums and cherries, with honey, roasted nuts and a hint of leather. The palate is full-bodied, with brown sugar, vanilla bean, dark chocolate and ripe stone fruit, then leather, tobacco leaf and oak tannin. The finish is long and warming, with leather, green peppercorn and a cherry cough-drop note.
