Joseph Magnus is a triple-cask finished straight bourbon, bottled at 50% in a 75cl bottle. The brand is run by Jos. A. Magnus & Co. in Washington, DC, and the whiskey itself was distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from a mashbill of 70% corn, 20% rye and 10% malted barley.
The finish is what sets it apart: the bourbon passes through Oloroso sherry casks, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and French cognac casks.
The nose shows caramel, toasted oak, stewed pears and fermented grapes. On the palate are brown sugar, caramel popcorn, blueberry, dark chocolate, currants and clove. The finish is long, with butterscotch, baking spice and a faint cocoa dryness.
