A 30 year old Jura single malt, bottled at 44% in a 70cl bottle. It is named for 1984, George Orwell's famous novel, which he wrote on the Isle of Jura.
The whisky spent 22 years in ex-bourbon casks, then six years in Gonzalez Byass Matusalem sherry casks and a final couple of years in Amoroso and Apostoles oloroso casks.
The nose brings toasted oak, orange peel, fresh mint and butter. The palate offers ginger nuts, honeycomb, bitter clove, cola and dark sherry oak, with dry oloroso, raisins and sultanas. Green leaves and hints of rancio arrive at the end.
