Turas-Mara is a Jura single malt that began as a travel retail exclusive. The name is Scots Gaelic for long journey and honours the islanders who emigrated to North America in the 18th and 19th centuries.
It matured in a mixture of bourbon barrels, sherry butts, French oak casks and port pipes, and is bottled at 42% ABV in a one-litre bottle.
The nose offers fresh plums, black grapes and cherries with vanilla and hints of toffee. On the palate there is plenty of vanilla, honey and chocolate, with a pronounced sherry influence giving a bittersweet character. The finish is long and full, with oak to the fore.
