Kaiken Malbec Ultra

A Malbec made from 100% Malbec grapes from three selected vineyards in the Uco Valley, all above 1,000 metres: Los Chacayes and Gualtallary at 1,300 m and Altamira at 1,100 m. The soils are deposits of sand and limestone, giving good drainage and ample water reserves at depth. The vines are more than 50 years old. Harvesting is manual with strict sorting, fermentation takes place in small tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation and 12 months of ageing, one third in new oak barrels and the rest in one- to three-year-old oak barrels. The wine then matures in bottle for a further 6 months. It has an intense ruby-red colour with a violet edge, with aromas of dark berries, ripe plums, rosemary and black pepper. The palate shows dark fruit, chocolate, tobacco and vanilla, with the Uco Valley's characteristic freshness and structure, and a long finish.
