Kaiyo 8 Years The Ramu Limited Edition (70cl, 46%)

Kaiyo The Ramu is an eight-year-old Japanese pure malt from the Wood Library Series, a late-2023 release. Its name is the Japanese word for rum, a nod to the casks it finishes in. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, un-chillfiltered. The whisky spent six years in new Japanese Mizunara oak, including three months of maturation at sea, then two years in JM Rhum Agricole barrels from Martinique. The result pairs Mizunara spice and sandalwood with the grassy, herbal character of agricole rhum. The nose brings crisp malt, golden raisins, ripe tropical fruit and sweet oak. On the palate are toasted oak, melon, rum-soaked raisins, honey and custard, ending on sandalwood, oak spice and citrus honey.
