Kaiyo Mizunara Oak is a Japanese whisky bottled at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is the black-label expression of the Kaiyo range and is non-chill filtered.
The base is 100% malted barley, re-casked into handmade mizunara oak casks from Kyoto's Ariake cooperage. After maturing on land, the casks travel by sea from Osaka for up to three months. It is a teaspooned malt, which makes it a blended malt, and it was ranked number 14 in Whisky Advocate's Top 20 Whiskies of 2019 with 92 points.
The nose is delicate, with vanilla, ripe dried fruit and a hint of cherry. The palate brings spices, vanilla sponge, honey, incense and allspice, and the finish is long.
