Kaiyo The Kuri Japanese Kuri Wood Finish Whisky (75cl, 46%)

Kaiyo The Kuri is a Japanese whisky bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle, finished in Japanese Kuri chestnut wood. It is bottled non-chill filtered. The whisky spends seven years in first-fill Kuri wood barrels and then three months maturing at sea, as with every Kaiyo whisky. Kuri is a sweeter, softer wood than oak, giving nutty warmth, deeper spice and subtle sweetness rather than heavy tannin. The nose shows roasted chestnut, honey, vanilla and soft baking spice. On the palate come toasted nuts, caramel, dark fruit, oak spice and a hint of cocoa, followed by a long, warming finish of spice, nuttiness and gentle sweetness.
