Kaiyo The Kuri is a Japanese whisky aged for its full term in first-fill Japanese Kuri chestnut barrels, an approach described as one of the first of its kind. It spent seven years maturing in Japan before the barrels went to sea for three months, as with all Kaiyo whiskies.
It was then returned to Japan and bottled at 46% abv.
On the nose there are drying wood and incense-like spice, with lavender balanced by raisin and eucalyptus. The finish is long, with hints of ripe raspberry.
