Kaiyo The Ramu is a Japanese malt whisky in a 750ml bottle at 46% ABV, made mainly from Nikka malt with a small share from another Japanese distillery. It is matured in Mizunara oak, then finished in barrels that held Rhum Agricole from Martinique's JM distillery. The name is the Japanese rendering of 'rum'.
Between the two stages the casks spend about three months at sea aboard ships.
The nose is vanilla frosting, light caramel, incense and sandalwood. The palate has toasted toffee, soft tropical fruit, spice and coconut. The finish is medium, with vanilla and oak spice.
