Kavalan Concertmaster is a Taiwanese single malt from the Kavalan Distillery in Yilan County, bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. It carries no age statement.
The whisky is finished in three kinds of Portuguese port cask: ruby, tawny and vintage. It won Best in Class at the 2011 International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Red grapes, clove and plenty of vanilla open the nose, with tropical fruit and honey behind. The palate offers brown sugar, cinnamon and peppery spice, then red fruit compote and honey. The finish is medium to long, with raisins, prunes, strawberry jam and a little tobacco.
