Kavalan Solist Amontillado is a single malt whisky from Yilan in Taiwan, signed by Master Blender Ian Chang. It was matured exclusively in Amontillado sherry casks from Spain and bottled at natural cask strength, 55.6% abv, without chill filtration.
Kavalan's warm subtropical climate speeds up maturation, and here it brings depth and concentration to the sherry cask influence.
The nose is roasted nuts, toffee and rich dried fruit, with hints of oak and leather. The palate is complex, with almond, caramel, figs and subtle spice, balanced by a savoury dryness from the Amontillado. The finish is long and nutty, with sweetness and saltiness in play.
