Kentucky Owl Maighstir Edition is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is the third release in the brand's Innovation Series, and Maighstir is Gaelic for 'master'.
Maureen Robinson, a veteran Scotch whisky blender, approached it as she would a blended Scotch. A wheated bourbon forms the base, with rye and straight bourbon character built around it, giving a four-grain whiskey. The edition also marks the handover of the Master Blender role at Kentucky Owl from John Rhea to Robinson.
Robinson describes it as opening with citrus, perfumed floral and green notes, with hints of sweetness and oak.
