Kentucky Owl Mardi Gras is a straight rye whiskey made to celebrate Mardi Gras and the pride of Louisiana. The rye was aged for 11 years, then spent a further year in Bayou Rum XO barrels.
The nose is toasted rye bread with fresh sweet butter, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. On the palate it is robust and full of rye character, with sweet butter and allspice, and the sweetness of the rum barrels mingling with the spice. The mouthfeel is robust but soft. The finish is smooth, with butter and allspice giving way to a long nutmeg warmth.
