This is a peated Islay single malt from Kilchoman, matured for its whole life in ex-Maury casks rather than simply finished in them. Maury is a sweet fortified wine from Roussillon, made from Grenache Noir grapes. It is the distillery's first release from French fortified-wine casks, bottled at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle, non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
The limited edition draws on 19 Maury butts filled in 2021, giving roughly 15,000 bottles, and the whisky has a crimson-red hue.
The nose has figs, raisins, dates, salted caramel, orange peel and soft peat smoke. The palate brings pipe smoke, dark chocolate, treacle and warming spices.
