Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 5 is the fifth release in the Peat in Progress series, bottled at 57.7% ABV. Kilkerran is the name given to whisky from the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown. The whisky was matured in 85% bourbon and 15% sherry casks.
The nose opens with citrus, vanilla cheesecake and rhubarb with cream, alongside delicate peat smoke. On the palate there is freshly baked Bramley apple pie and sweet, salty caramel. The peat is prominent yet well integrated, with a fresh coastal note recalling a busy, sea-sprayed harbour. The finish is long and creamy, with toasted oak and pencil shavings giving way to lasting, sweet, fruity peat smoke.
