Kira Kira Koi is a Japanese whisky matured in Mizunara oak casks and bottled at 40% ABV. It comes in a hand-crafted, koi fish-shaped 750ml bottle.
Mizunara is an oak native to Japan, valued for its rarity and for the spice and sandalwood character it gives the whisky. The casks are made from Quercus crispula, a wood that is difficult to work because of its high moisture content.
The nose is honeyed malt with toasted oak and vanilla, then sandalwood and delicate floral notes. The palate is soft and silky, with honey, green apple, ripe pear and gentle baking spice. The finish is moderate in length, with lingering warmth and a return of sandalwood.
