Kujira 12 Years is a Japanese single grain whisky from Shinzato Shuzo, a distillery on Okinawa that has been active since 1989. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
It is made from top-quality Indica rice and Okinawan black koji, then matured for more than 12 years in Spanish sherry casks and Kentucky bourbon casks. The name comes from Hone Kujira, the skeletal whale spirit of Japanese folklore.
The nose is fruity, with balsamic vinegar and corn syrup. The palate opens bitter, then turns sweet from the sherry cask maturation.
Tasting Notes
Pleasant fruit, balsamic vinegar, corn syrup
Bitter at first, then sweet notes from the sherry casks
