Kujira Kyojin, meaning "Giant Whale", is a single grain Japanese whisky from the Masahiro Shuzo Distillery in Okinawa, in a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. The distillery was established in 1883 and was originally known for Awamori, a traditional rice spirit.
The whisky is made from 100% Indica rice, fermented with black koji, and matured only in virgin American white oak. Okinawa's subtropical climate speeds up maturation, and this expression is 3 years old. The colour is light amber.
The nose is aromatic, with warm spices, white chocolate, toasted nuts, tropical fruit and a hint of rose. The palate is velvety, with dark chocolate, vanilla and baked fruitcake, and the finish is warm and dry with oak and dark chocolate.
