A red wine from Monferrato in Piedmont, produced mainly from Barbera with a small addition of other local varieties. It has an intense ruby red colour.
The nose shows ripe red fruit such as cherry and plum, with vanilla and sweet spice from ageing in French oak barriques. On the palate it is vigorous but harmonious, with well-balanced tannins and a lingering aromatic finish.
It is recommended with rich dishes such as roast red meats, game or aged cheeses, and should be served at 16 to 18 degrees C after decanting for at least one hour.
