Lagavulin 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the 2022 Special Releases, Diageo's annual collection, in a 70cl bottle. This edition is titled The Flames of the Phoenix. It was matured for 12 years in refill American oak casks and bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.3%, non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
The nose is bonfire smoke, sea spray and charred citrus peel, with hints of vanilla and brine. The palate is bold, with smoked oak, roasted coffee and seaweed alongside lemon and peppery spice. The finish is long, with smoke and salt woven through a subtle sweetness and heat.
