A 12 year old Lagavulin from the 2014 Diageo Special Releases, bottled that year at 54.4% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in refill American oak casks, and the release ran to 31,428 bottles.
The nose is peaty and leafy with chalky notes, sour dough, sweet apples, vanilla toffee, lemon and a medicinal edge. The palate is oily, pungent and herbal, surprisingly sweet, with grapefruit and coastal notes. The finish is long, bitter and herbal yet sweet, with ash and menthol.
