Lagavulin 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt and part of the 2024 Special Releases. It is bottled at natural cask strength, 57.4% ABV (114.8 proof), and is non-chill filtered.
The whisky was matured in a mix of first-fill ex-bourbon and refill casks. It keeps the distillery's smoky, coastal character, with a slightly sweeter edge beneath the peat.
The nose has ashy peat smoke, citrus peel, sea spray, vanilla and a little coconut. The palate is powerful and layered, with bonfire smoke, lemon, honey, black pepper, iodine and roasted coffee. The finish is long and intense, with ash, tobacco, brine, spice and lingering smoke.
