Lagavulin 12 Year Old Fireside Tales is the Islay distillery's contribution to the Diageo Special Releases of 2024, bottled in 2024 at a cask strength of 57.4% in a 200ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The whisky matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon and refill casks. Toffee, vanilla and coconut set a sweet counterpoint to the peat smoke, alongside aromatic spice.
The nose is soft and dry, with clean peat smoke recalling a smouldering fire on a distant beach. The palate is smooth, creamy and full, with early sweetness giving way to a drier impression with some salt and controlled smoke. The finish is long, ending smoky and dry, with warming spice.
