This is the 2017 Special Release of Lagavulin, a 12 year old Islay single malt bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.5% ABV. It is an official limited edition.
The nose is typically described as showing Lagavulin's sweeter peat first, then sooty smoke, crushed barley, hand cream and sea air, with a hint of mercurochrome. Water brings out wet old tweed.
The palate is lemony, peppery, ashy and smoky, turning ashier and sootier with water as orange appears in the background. The finish is rather long and clean, with smoked oranges.
