This is the 2020 Special Release of Lagavulin, a 12 year old single malt from Islay bottled at a cask strength of 56.4%. The spirit was distilled in 2007.
It matured in refill American oak hogsheads and butts, chosen for the quality of the wood.
The nose opens with ash and linseed oil, then boiled sweet fruit and a hint of sea air. On the palate it is soft in texture and sweeter than expected, smoky with a little salt, leaving some dryness. The finish is long and smoky, dry and salty.
