This is the 2025 Special Release of Lagavulin 12 Year Old, an Islay single malt from Diageo's annual Special Releases series. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.5% ABV and is non-chill filtered.
The 2025 edition is nicknamed "Grain & Embers" and was matured in refill American oak casks. It comes in a tube carrying the same design.
On the nose there is kiln smoke, smouldering peat embers, toasted grain, apple skin and lemon oil. The palate is intensely peaty with sea spray salinity, roasted nuts, spiced cereal and charred oak. The finish is long and smoky, with campfire ash, cracked pepper and a flicker of citrus.
