Lagavulin 12 Year Old The Ink of Legends is an Islay single malt from the Diageo Special Releases 2023, part of the Spirited Xchange group. It was bottled in 2023 at a natural strength of 56.4%, in a 20cl bottle supplied in a tube. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
Its finish in casks that previously held Don Julio Añejo tequila sets it apart from other 12 year old Lagavulin special bottlings.
The nose begins with carbolic soap and medicinal balm, herbal smoke and driftwood fire, with a faint savoury note. The palate is creamy and full, sweet and citrussy, with salt and juicy plum before turning herbal and smoky. The finish is long, dry, salty and very smoky.
