This is a 16-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from Lagavulin on Islay, bottled at 43% in a 75cl bottle.
The distillery was established in 1816 on Islay's southern shore. The whisky is double distilled in four pear-shaped copper pot stills, with roughly five hours through the wash still and nine through the spirit still. The malted barley is heavily peated.
The nose is big and peaty, with smoked fish, driftwood, brine and baked apple. The palate starts soft before dry peat and coal smoke arrive, alongside dates, figs, salted caramel and black pepper. The finish is very long, moving from sweet malt to ashy smoke, roasted coffee and iodine.
