Lagavulin 16 Year Old is an Islay single malt from Lagavulin Distillery, established in 1816 on the island's south-east coast. It is part of the Classic Malts of Scotland.
The whisky is matured for at least sixteen years, mainly in American oak casks, with a portion finishing in sherry-seasoned barrels. It is bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle.
The nose is Lapsang Souchong, bonfire embers and sherry sweetness with iodine and seaweed. The palate is full-bodied and viscous, with peat smoke, honeyed caramel, smoked meats, coastal saltiness, prunes and dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with soft smoke, orange zest, tobacco and a mineral note.
