Lagavulin – 8 Year Old (70cl)

Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt from Scotland, in a 70cl bottle. It is a young bottling, chosen to bring the sea and peat character of Lagavulin into sharp focus. The eight-year age follows the Victorian whisky writer Alfred Barnard's praise for the distillery's 8-year-old. The colour is an intense pale straw with golden highlights. The nose is briny, with iodised sea water and seaweed wrapped in peat smoke, and black pepper adds a restrained spice. On the palate come iodine and peat, dried fruit and freshly baked dry pastry, savoury and gently sweet, followed by a very good finish.
