Laizhou STR Red Wine Cask is a Chinese single malt from Laizhou Distillery in Qionglai, Sichuan. It is fermented for 72 hours and matured in red wine casks from the distillery's own cooperage. The cask interiors are shaved, toasted and re-charred using the STR method.
A share of peated malt adds light smoke to the red wine fruit. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and without chill filtration.
The nose offers ripe apple, sweet smoky plum, tart and salty prune and soft vanilla cream. The palate brings melting caramel, buttered toast, lightly smoky oak, dark chocolate and a hint of cinnamon, with a full, silky texture. The long, warm finish has roasted nuts, chocolate and gentle oak.
