This is Batch 010 of Laphroaig's 10 year old cask strength release, an Islay single malt bottled in 2018 at 58% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill filtered and was matured mainly in ex-bourbon barrels.
It is a peated whisky, and the maritime smokiness of the distillery comes through undiluted at this strength.
The nose brings earthy barbecue char, iodine, brine and old wood, with orange oil, black pepper and ginger appearing when water is added. The palate is medium-bodied and oily, with vegetal peat smoke, vanilla and nutty malt, finishing long on spicy oak and fading smoke.
