This is Laphroaig 10 Year Old, a peated Islay single malt bottled at 40% vol. The barley is malted, cold-smoked and then dried over a fire fuelled with Islay peat, and the water comes from the Kilbride Stream. The distillery was founded on Islay in 1815.
It is a bright gold in the glass. The nose is very smoky, with a touch of seaweed and some sweetness. On the palate there is a surprising sweetness, a hint of salt and layers of peat. The body is full and the finish long.
