Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an Islay single malt in which peat smoke sits at the centre. The malted barley is dried over Islay peat smoke before distillation, and the whisky then matures for ten years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which add oak sweetness alongside the smoke. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
The nose combines peat smoke, seaweed and a touch of sweetness. Salt and smoke shape the palate, with sweetness as a counterpoint, and the finish lingers with a coastal character.
