Laphroaig – 10 Year Old (75cl, 43%)

Laphroaig 10 Year Old is a heavily peated Islay single malt from the distillery at Port Ellen, founded in 1815. It is matured for ten years in ex-bourbon barrels of American oak and bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. The barley is dried over an Islay peat fire, with part of it malted in the distillery's own floor maltings. This is the original Laphroaig and the foundation of the range. The producer describes bold peat smoke on the nose, with seaweed, a hint of sweetness and some salt. The palate is full-bodied, with layers of smoke over a surprising sweetness, and the long finish ends in a sweet and salty seaweed character.
