Laphroaig 18 Year Old is an Islay single malt matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 48% ABV, without chill-filtration or added colour. It returns as a new release after an absence of ten years.
Heavy smoke leads the nose, followed by a subtle sweetness of salted caramel, with seaweed and freshly pressed apple juice. On the palate intense peat smoke comes first, with seagrass, gooseberries, juicy apples and a hint of leather. The finish is smoky and long, with a pleasant saltiness and fruity accents.
