This is Laphroaig 18 Year Old, an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle at 48% ABV. It is a pre-2013 edition of an expression that was first released in 2009 as the successor to the 15-year-old, and which has since been discontinued.
Laphroaig takes its name from the land at the head of Loch Laphroaig, on the south coast of the Isle of Islay.
The nose is gentle peat smoke with vanilla, toffee and a hint of gooseberry. On the palate there is cinnamon warmth, baked orchard fruits and a soft sweetness that tempers the medicinal edge. The finish is long, with smoke, herbal mint and a rounded, full-bodied fruitiness.
