This is a 20-year-old Laphroaig from Islay, bottled by independent bottler Highland Laird at 58.9% in a 70cl bottle.
It was distilled in October 2005 and began its maturation in an ex-bourbon barrel. It was then finished in an ex-sherry butt, which added dried fruit, polished oak and rich spice over the smoke and iodine character of the distillery.
The nose combines peaty smoke and iodine with dried fruit and a medicinal freshness. The palate is rich and oily, with dates, treacle, charred wood and black pepper. The finish is long, with bonfire ash, brine and cocoa powder.
