A 27 year old Islay single malt from Laphroaig, distilled between October 1988 and November 1989 and bottled in March 2017 at 41.7% ABV. It is the third release in the annual series of old bottlings that Laphroaig began for its 200th anniversary.
Maturation began in refill hogsheads, followed by a finish in refill quarter casks and first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. It has no added colour and is non-chill-filtered, and 7,542 bottles were produced.
The nose combines mature peat smoke, dried fruit, vanilla and oak spice with a medicinal note. The palate is rich and oily, with malt, honey, citrus peel and gentle oak, and the finish is long and peaty.
