Laphroaig – 33 Year Old Ian Hunter Book 3 (70cl, 49.9%)

This is a 33 year old Islay single malt from Laphroaig, bottled at 49.9% in a 70cl bottle. It is the third release in the Ian Hunter series, which honours the man who owned and ran the distillery from 1908 to 1944. Each bottling comes with a small booklet on the distillery's history. The whisky spent 33 years in ex-bourbon casks, and its character draws on peat-smoked malt. The nose is sweet and spicy with sherry, dried fruit, cigar, fig, chocolate, toffee and red pepper. The palate offers stone fruit, manuka honey and fine peat smoke, and the finish is long and dry.
