This is the third release in the Ian Hunter series from Laphroaig: a 33 year old peated Islay single malt, non-chill-filtered and bottled at 49.9% vol. in a 70cl bottle. It matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks.
The edition pays tribute to Ian Hunter's struggle to secure a supply of highly acidic, mineral-poor water, which is central to the character of Laphroaig. The distillery was founded on Islay in 1815.
The colour is deep amber gold. The nose is smoky and herbal, with pipe tobacco, eucalyptus, mint, fresh hay, jasmine and autumn leaves. The palate is peaty and sweet, with lemon, lychee, iodine, cedar and toffee. The finish is ashy and floral, with lingering wood smoke.
