Laphroaig 33 Year Old is the first chapter of the Strong Characters series, which honours Donald Johnston, co-founder of the Islay distillery. The single malt matured for more than three decades in American oak and in ex-sherry hogsheads of European oak, and was bottled in 2024 at 43.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
Peaty aromas come with sweet sherry notes and soft vanilla. The palate is full and intense, balancing smoke and fruit, with dried fruit, caramel and a subtle spice, and strong peat smoke throughout.
