Laphroaig 34 Year Old is the fourth release in the Ian Hunter Series, an Islay single malt presented in a book that honours Ian Hunter, the last of the Johnston family to own and run the distillery. This instalment recalls his establishment of the malting floors still used at Laphroaig today.
The whisky is non-chill filtered and was matured in ex-bourbon casks and first fill European oak Oloroso sherry casks.
The nose brings leaf tobacco, eucalyptus and fresh straw alongside golden syrup and heather honey. The palate is peaty and sweet, with peach and orange blossom, and the finish is ashy with lingering wood smoke.
