Laphroaig 40 Year Old is an Islay single malt aged for four decades in carefully selected oak casks. It is bottled at 41.7%.
The long maturation is set against the peaty character the distillery is known for.
The nose brings maritime smoke, old oak, leather and a touch of iodine, softened by dried fruit and vanilla pod. On the palate come peat, sea salt, dried figs, sherry cask character and cracked pepper, moving towards dark chocolate and espresso. The finish is long and warming, with Islay peat and oak spice.
