Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 is an Islay single malt bottled by the distillery in 2014 at 51.4% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Cairdeas is the series released each year for Feis Ìle, the Islay whisky festival, and the name means friendship in Scottish Gaelic.
This edition was matured in first-fill bourbon casks and Amontillado hogsheads, and 28,254 bottles were filled. The bourbon wood brings soft vanilla and the Amontillado casks a nutty depth.
The nose is peaty and salty, with vanilla, roasted nuts and soft oak. The palate has medicinal peat smoke, earthy and maritime notes, sweet vanilla and malt, and a nutty depth. The finish is long, with peat, salt, spice and a gentle mix of sweet and nutty tones.
