This is a Laphroaig Cairdeas bottling from Islay, released for Feis Ìle, the island's annual whisky festival. Cairdeas means friendship in Scottish Gaelic.
It is a 12 year old single malt, bottled by the distillery in 2009 at 57.5% in a 70cl bottle. The edition ran to 4,000 bottles.
The nose combines powerful peat smoke, medicinal notes and sea air with sweet malt, vanilla and warm spices. The palate is intense and full, with earthy peat, a maritime edge, sweet malt, vanilla and peppery spice. The finish is long and warming, with lingering smoke and salt that fade into a soft sweetness.
