Cairdeas Port Wood Edition is an Islay single malt from Laphroaig, bottled at 51.3% for the Friends of Laphroaig. This bottle is signed by John Campbell.
The port wood influence brings a sweetness that softens the medicinal edge of the distillery's style.
The nose combines dense peat smoke, cold ash, iodine and sea air with raspberry, blackcurrant, plum jam and blood orange. The palate moves from burnt sugar and toffee to bonfire smoke, black pepper, cinnamon and ginger. The finish is long and warm, with peat ash, tar and dark chocolate.
