Laphroaig Cairdeas White Port & Madeira 2023 is the distillery's annual Fèis Ìle release, an Islay single malt with no age statement. It is the first Cairdeas created by master distiller Barry MacAffer, bottled at 52.3% in a 75cl bottle.
Three quarters of the whisky matured in second-fill Madeira casks, and the final quarter was finished in first-fill Port casks, mostly white port. The Madeira brings smoky, spicy, sweet-fruit flavours, while the white port adds crisp fruit and deep woodiness.
The nose is cinnamon, ground ginger, green apple and toasted peach with charred orange peel. The palate is honeyed and citrusy with hazelnut, dark chocolate and earthy smoke, and the finish is sweet and smooth with peat, creosote and a touch of sea salt.
